When Rollins first brought up the eye color thing, I wasn't sure why it mattered whether Emerson was the Mauers' biological son or not. Was the additional twist that Emerson was dead and the pedophile was a kidnapped child named Kevin Brown really necessary? I was sure that her ex-husband had abused their son and that was what had caused the kid to grow up to be a pedophile. Mrs.Mauer's like-father-like-son comment was telling.

Maybe Emerson took after his old man.Ĭarisi: Did you just throw your son under the bus?

It was obvious she was hiding something when she didn't want the cops looking in her garage, and from the promo, I knew exactly what it was. Mauer was interchangeable with so many other such mothers on so many other shows and that made her uninteresting. Judging from crime dramas, there are a lot of oblivious working-class moms whose sons cause chaos!Įmerson's Mom: This is harassment! I'm gonna sue you! We've seen this lots of times before - the clueless mother who is protecting an evil son. Related: How Law & Order: SVU Has Evolved Over the YearsĮven before the big twist, I didn't find the Mauers that riveting a family. He didn't, of course, but that would have been an interesting direction to take that never happened. He was so determined and so unable to entertain the thought of Bailey helping to put this guy away that for a second I thought he had something to hide. Paige's mixed feelings about being a surrogate mom could have gotten thrown into the mix, with the guys having different reactions to her having taken pictures of Bailey even though that helped lead to catching the kidnapper.ĭid anyone else think Jamie's insistence on protecting Bailey from testifying was suspicious? Taht would have allowed SVU to explore more fully some of the issues gay parents run up against that straight parents don't and make a powerful statement about the far-reaching consequences of prejudice. Related: 23 Times Law & Order: SVU Made Us CryĮven though it's been done before, I think that the case getting thrown out because Bailey didn't testify and the men blaming SVU for the resulting rift in their relationship would have been compelling drama! I'd have liked to have explored that in greater depth.īut instead, Jamie's refusal to let Bailey testify was a plot point that helped move the story in the direction of discovering that skeleton in the Mauer backyard and discovering that "Emerson" was really Kevin Brown.
LAW AND ORDER SVU SEASON 6 EPISODE 17 TRIAL
The fathers didn't agree on whether or not Bailey should testify against her kidnapper and feared that a trial would stigmatize her further when she already got teased for having two dads. : I'm not letting some defense attorney tear her story to shreds. It's better she just forget the whole thing. LAW AND ORDER SVU SEASON 6 EPISODE 17 HOW TO
If I were in that situation, sibling or not, I'd lose my god damn mind if my sister after everything she did had the nerve to call me out on getting her in trouble!! Her sister is clearly a sociopath but she still keeps defending her like she's a child that's just being defiant!įrom the start, I've never liked Amanda's character. The story of a gay couple worrying about their kidnapped daughter and how to proceed now that she'd been found was also fascinating. I've watched this before of course since it's an old episode but I just watched it again tonight and I was so furious about the whole thing I had to write a review. Rollins has shown again and again that she's not a solid detective and when she gets going she lies and doesn't listen to anything her squad tells her, like with the episode where her sister framed her for murder. I love SVU but every episode with Rollins's sister makes me so mad I'm literally screaming at the screen! and Rollins is such a pushover when it comes to Kim it's ridiculous, and she's supposed to be a good detective? Yet she is easier fooled than a 5 year old! and she does nothing throughout the episode to defend herself and respond when both her mother and Kim treat her unfairly and horribly, has she completely forgotten what Kim did to her the last time she was in town? and she says nothing when Kim lashes at her for getting her arrested nor her mother too? COMMON! and how come Rollins gets endless chances with her boss when she's clearly breaking the law!? She let a fugitive go, she lied to Benson but she faces no repercussions at all for all of that? let's not even talk about the episode with the whole gambling situation, and she even acts like it's no big deal and they shouldn't be getting all worked up about it!? Wow.
